ASABA/Nigeria: The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has urged for the reinforcement of the law to prosecute individuals who make false statements under oath. During the courtesy visit, the Deputy Governor emphasized the importance of media organizations crosschecking facts before publishing to safeguard the truth.
Sir Onyeme expressed his concern over the spread of false information, referring to an allegation against him regarding his dismissal from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) for forgery, In a meeting with Nigeria Television Authority’s (NTA) Channel 11 management in Asaba,
He questioned the credibility of such claims and called for stricter laws against those who make false statements in public. He also highlighted the need for credible witnesses and evidence during legal proceedings to ensure justice.
The Deputy Governor commended NTA Channel 11 for their longstanding collaboration with the Delta State Government and urged them to continue upholding journalistic integrity. He emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, as misleading information can be easily accepted as truth by the public.
In response, the General Manager of NTA Channel 11, Phil Obanor, praised the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, emphasizing their determination to improve the state. She acknowledged the Deputy Governor’s support in media-related matters, citing his media-friendly disposition.
