Delta State Exco Approves Disbursement of N3.88 Billion under D-CARES Programme

ASABA/Nigeria: In a significant move aimed at bolstering the state’s development initiatives, the Delta State Executive Council (EXCO) granted approval for the allocation of N3,887,277,784.66 billion as the second reimbursement from the World Bank under the D-CARES implementation program. This announcement was made by Mr. Sonny Ekedayen, the State Commissioner for Economic Planning, during a briefing with journalists following the EXCO meeting led by Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

“The disbursement, channelled through Direct Cash Transfer, FADAMA, Livelihood, and Direct Labour, aligns with Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to human capital development and social intervention,” Ekedayen stated. “Deltans have already begun receiving alerts, reflecting the governor’s agenda for human capital development and social intervention. This is a continuous effort, with expectations for additional reimbursements following an independent verification exercise by NG-CARES in early January.”

Ekedayen also commended the swift passage of the 2024 Delta State budget, acknowledging the efforts of key figures including Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor and Appropriation Committee Chair Hon. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola for their role in facilitating the budget’s passage.

Regarding the budget’s increase by N10 billion before enactment, Ekedayen clarified, “The augmentation was to accommodate further infrastructural transformation. With an anticipated IGR of N144 billion against the initial N110 billion, the implementation of the 2024 budget is poised to proceed without impediments.”

Additionally, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads), highlighted infrastructure development initiatives. Aniagwu affirmed, “Approval was granted for the reconstruction of the Okan junction to East West Road, spanning 3.47km, to ease traffic congestion during ongoing flyover constructions.”

He added, “We’ve also been tasked to investigate the condition of the Bomadi road to address complaints about its deteriorating state. This proactive approach aims to enhance connectivity and ensure smoother, more accessible routes for residents.”

The EXCO’s decisions underscore the state government’s unwavering commitment to comprehensive development and infrastructural enhancement across Delta State.
