Obiaruku/Nigeria:  Mix reaction had trailed the Delta State food distribution to cushion the effect of the four weeks Coronavirus pandemic on the people, especially those that are described as the vulnerable among the population in the state.

The foods which was distributed to the 25 local government areas of the state last week according the government was targeted at the vulnerables, and the sharing will be devoid of politics.

With the releasing of the food items which is made up of bags of rice, beans and cartons of ndomie noodles to the food committees at the local government level, the foods where supposed to be shared  along the federal demarcated wards, with the involvement of community leaders.

Investigation carried out in the three local government areas that make up the Ndokwa nation had shown that the distribution in many places at the ward, and community levels was different, thus necessitating grumbling among many people in the area.

At Ukwuani Local government area, it was noticed that in Umutu, for the food to go round, the community was highly involved, and it was shared along family line, and at the end each house hood received average of one basket of the food items, especially the rice and beans. This was not the case in other wards in the local government, where most people who were the target of the government was left out on sharing.

In Ndokwa west, our correspondent was confronted with issues of party line, despite the warning that it should not be politicized. The complaint was everywhere in the local government.

The Ndokwa east, where the chairman had before the arrival of the food warned that food will be shared according to instruction from the governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the distribution was done as directed, and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, APC, Chief Charles Obi attested that the food was distributed according to instruction, but at the ward level he may know what happened.

Reactions from the people showed that the food was not well coordinated, as the intention of government was not achieved with many getting between one and two cups of either rice or beans, or one or two packs of ndomie noodles.

It was also noticed that most of the leaders in the local government area partook in sharing the foods, this according to many was the main cause of the shortage of what went to the real targets.
