ASABA/Nigeria: The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has affirmed the state’s unwavering preparedness to serve as one of Nigeria’s distinguished host states for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027.
Addressing the delegation from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) bidding inspection committee, Governor Oborevwori extended his warm welcome at the Government House in Asaba. the Governor confidently portrayed Delta State as a serene haven primed to embrace the exhilarating continental football extravaganza.
“Our arms are open wide to receive the esteemed inspection team of the Confederation of African Football, as they embark on this second round of assessments for the 2027 African Nations Cup, a collaborative endeavor between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin,” declared Governor Oborevwori with unflinching assurance.
Drawing the spotlight onto Delta State, he continued, “I extend a heartfelt welcome to you all to our tranquil haven, Delta State. It is with utmost conviction that I assert our state’s potential as a beacon of tranquility, rendering us a compelling choice among the host cities within Nigeria. Governor Oborevwori highlighted the state’s impressive track record, emphasizing, “We’ve successfully orchestrated grand sporting spectacles such as the Senior African Athletics Championship in 2018 and the National Sports Festival in 2022. Our commitment to excellence is unwavering, underscored by our impeccable security infrastructure, top-notch facilities, and well-maintained roads and airport.”
Asserting the state’s determination to ensure the success of the event, he firmly stated, “With the honor of hosting this prestigious event, Delta State pledges to deliver an exceptional experience for all participants. Our state-of-the-art stadiums stand as a testament to our dedication, and I can confidently assure you that if Delta State is bestowed with this privilege, our hosting prowess will be nothing short of exceptional.”
