ASABA/Nigeria: In a landmark development, the Delta State Government, in collaboration with the renowned German construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, formalized a groundbreaking agreement on Wednesday. This monumental pact, valued at a staggering N78 billion, is set to redefine the urban landscape of Effurun and Warri metropolis in the state.
The sweeping scope of this monumental contract encompasses an extensive array of transformative projects. Key components include the expansion of a section of the DSC/NPA Expressway, featuring the creation of a state-of-the-art Cloverleaf Interchange at the existing Effurun flyover. The ambitious endeavor will also introduce two pedestrian bridges and a series of Flyover bridges, strategically positioned at pivotal locations such as Enerhen junction to Marine Gate, DSC roundabout, and PTI junction.
A ceremony held in the presence of esteemed government officials and representatives from Julius Berger Nigeria Plc witnessed the formal signing of this historic agreement. Representing the Delta State Government were Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government, and Comrade Reuben Izeze, the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads). On the other side of the table, the Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Dr. Lars Richter, and the Regional Manager, Engr Friedrich Wieser, assumed the roles of signatories.
Additionally, the solemn occasion was graced by the presence of Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, and Engr Fred Edafioghor, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works. These distinguished witnesses collectively bore testament to the momentous nature of the event.
Delivering a poignant address during the signing ceremony, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed profound enthusiasm for the transformative potential that this partnership brings. He articulated that the culmination of this agreement represents the culmination of months of meticulous planning and rigorous negotiations, heralding a significant stride forward in the administration’s overarching vision to initiate an infrastructural revolution in Warri and its surrounding areas.
Governor Oborevwori expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Today’s event is the high point of months of vigorous planning, meetings, reviews, and tough negotiations. I am pleased that we have reached a point of agreement.” He emphasized that this collaboration with Julius Berger Nigeria Plc marks the first time the Delta State government has engaged this renowned construction company for such expansive projects.
He conveyed his appreciation to all the parties involved and acknowledged the challenges that were overcome to reach this point. The Governor underscored the choice of Julius Berger as being informed by not only their sterling track record but also their extensive experience in road construction within riverine terrains.
Governor Oborevwori set an ambitious timeline for the project, urging the contractor to complete the projects within 27 months. He expressed confidence that Julius Berger would replicate their previous successes in other states with similar topographies, delivering a significant transformation to Warri and its environs.
The Governor further highlighted the numerous benefits this project will offer, including alleviating traffic congestion, enhancing the quality of life for commuters, and generating employment opportunities for local residents. He reassured the people of Delta State that his administration’s M.O.R.E. agenda is firmly on track and pledged to bring about more landmark projects across the different senatorial districts.
Dr. Lars Richter, Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, extended his gratitude to the Delta State Government for entrusting the company with these transformative projects.
