Delta State Government Commits to Addressing Labour Concerns, Urges Federal Action

ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to address the mounting concerns of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Delta State, the Delta State Government has pledged to advocate for the resolution of these challenges at the federal level.

Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government, made this commitment while engaging with protesters gathered at the Government House, Asaba. He assured the demonstrators of the government’s dedication to conveying their grievances to the Federal Government for consideration.

“We appreciate the peaceful demonstration by Nigerian workers today. Your Governor extends his regards,” Dr. Emu remarked, acknowledging the significance of the workers’ demands and the broader implications of their plight on society.

Highlighting the proactive measures taken by the state government under Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership, Dr. Emu emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing various issues affecting workers, including pension reforms and promotion arrears.

“The Governor is deeply concerned about the economic challenges facing our citizens. He is committed to fulfilling his promises and alleviating the burdens faced by workers,” Dr. Emu affirmed.

Addressing the nationwide hardship exacerbated by economic downturns, Dr. Emu underscored the need for solidarity and collective action. He urged the federal government to prioritize the welfare of citizens and fulfill its obligations to workers across the country.

Comrade Ziko Okwudi, the First Vice Chairman of Delta State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the failure of the federal government to honor its commitments to workers.

“We have gathered here today to voice our dissatisfaction with the prevailing economic hardship. Despite assurances from the federal government, promises remain unfulfilled, and workers continue to suffer,” Comrade Okwudi lamented.

He called attention to the dire consequences of hunger and urged immediate action to address the plight of Nigerian workers.

The protest serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for government intervention to alleviate the suffering of workers and foster sustainable solutions to economic challenges nationwide.
