Delta State Government Disburses N30 Billion to Contractors, Accelerates Project Execution

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has announced the release of a staggering sum of N30 billion designated for the settlement of overdue payments to contractors across the state. This move, confirmed by the State Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Mr. Charles Aniagwu, was revealed during a post-inspection interview with journalists following assessments of ongoing projects at Emevor and Evwreni in Isoko North and Ughelli North Local Government Areas.

Expressing gratitude for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s approval of the funds, Aniagwu emphasized its potential to invigorate contractors, motivating them to expedite project timelines. He highlighted the recent authorization of nearly N30 billion for various contractors, resulting in a resurgence of construction activity across numerous project sites.

Aniagwu outlined the government’s proactive measures, stating, “We are strategically planning to sustain regular payments, ensuring contractors maintain project momentum and deliver optimal results across Delta’s 25 local government areas.”

He reassured ongoing support for contractors by expediting interim certificate payments, affirming, “Our commitment is unwavering in ensuring uninterrupted project continuity, facilitating seamless execution without financial constraints hindering their progress.”

Commending the cooperative efforts of Emevor community’s youth in facilitating project execution, Aniagwu emphasized the importance of community ownership in government-led initiatives. He underscored the establishment of a citizen-centric call center, fostering direct communication channels to address concerns and grievances related to project execution.

Furthermore, Aniagwu issued a stern warning against the burning of tires along roads, emphasizing the need for community leaders to actively engage and educate residents to prevent detrimental actions that could compromise road infrastructure.

He emphasized, “Community leaders must actively promote responsible behavior, safeguarding not only government properties but also private assets within their precincts. Preserving these infrastructures guarantees prolonged utility and the potential for future developmental projects.”

Aniagwu concluded by highlighting the adverse effects of tire burning on roads, urging communities to adopt a responsible stance towards infrastructure upkeep. He emphasized the long-term benefits of proper maintenance, emphasizing the potential for sustained infrastructure durability over the span of decades.
