Delta State Government Increases Project Budgets Amid Rising Construction Costs

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has sanctioned an upward review of contract prices for various ongoing projects across the state in response to escalating costs of construction materials. This decision was announced by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, during a press briefing on Thursday. The briefing followed the State Executive Council (EXCO) meeting chaired by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Dr. Osuoza highlighted several key decisions made at the EXCO meeting. Notably, the contract for the rehabilitation of the Warri Township Stadium was terminated due to the contractor’s lack of capacity to complete the project.

Additionally, the EXCO approved the payment of retirement and death benefits to verified staff of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, and amendments to the state’s road traffic regulations.

The Commissioner detailed several specific project approvals and revisions include, the reconstruction of Ororor, Chechster, and Benjamin Oseregbaje Road in Sapele.     Amendments to road traffic regulations. Reviews of interest rates on naira credit facilities for contractor guarantees and direct facilities.

“Approval was given for the upward review of contracts due to increased prices of construction materials for various projects, including the construction of the Kwale/Beneku Road, Obi-Ibabu Road, and a six-lane access road to the Asaba waterfront,” Dr. Osuoza stated.

Further approvals included the construction of a bridge across the Orere River with access roads in Ughelli South, and the rehabilitation of the Emevor-Orogun Road in Isoko North.

Dr. Osuoza also announced the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Kingsley Emuakpor Orherhe, as the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, Warri South Local Government Area.

In summing up, Dr. Osuoza emphasized that the adjustments in contract sums were necessary to address fluctuations in unit rates and additional works required for these significant infrastructure projects across Delta State.
