ASABA/Nigeria: In a decisive move towards enhancing the quality of primary education in Delta State, the State Government has unveiled a week-long Based Model Training for Public Primary School Teachers spanning all twenty-five local government areas.
Speaking in his Asaba office, Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon (Chief) Samuel Mariere, outlined the comprehensive program set to commence on Monday, 22nd of this month.
A total of One Thousand, Six Hundred and Fifty Teachers have been carefully selected to participate in this initiative.
Mariere emphasized the state government’s commitment to rejuvenating the education sector, underlining that the primary objective of the training is to augment the capabilities of primary school teachers and inspire them for improved service delivery.
Highlighting Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s dedication to reshaping the public school narrative, Mariere urged key stakeholders in the primary and basic education sub-sector to approach their roles with utmost seriousness to restore the lost glories of public education.
The former lawmaker underscored the significance of ongoing training and retraining for teachers, issuing a stern warning to participants of potential sanctions for non-attendance or failure to complete the intensive one-week training.
Mariere elucidated that the Based Model Training program is a collaborative effort between the state government and the Universal Basic Education Board.
He assured participants of provisions for transport, feeding, and additional allowances at the conclusion of the program.
Furthermore, Mariere revealed that resource persons, comprising lecturers from Colleges of Education and Faculty of Education in Universities, underwent a “train the trainers” program in Abuja ahead of the Delta State exercise.
To ensure accessibility and convenience for participants, thirty-three venues have been designated across the state.
Mariere detailed the approved centers, including schools in various local government areas, where training sessions will be conducted simultaneously.
Regular oversight will be maintained by officials from the board throughout the week-long program, ensuring adherence to the prescribed rules by both trainers and teachers at the designated centers.
