Delta State Government Reiterates Commitment to Quality Infrastructure Development in Urban Centers

UGHELLI/Nigeria: In a renewed commitment to ensure high-quality infrastructure development in the state, the Delta State Government, led by Governor Sheriff Oborevrwori, is prioritizing accelerated infrastructural renewal, particularly in urban centers. This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, when he reaffirmed this commitment during an inspection of road projects in the Ughelli metropolis, Ughelli North local government area.

Izeze emphasized that robust road infrastructure aligns with Governor Oborevrwori’s MORE agenda and stressed the administration’s determination to achieve success in this endeavor.

He, along with ministry officials, visited project sites awarded to ease traffic congestion at the Otowodo junction of the Ughelli-Patani East-West Expressway and its surroundings.

During the inspection, Comrade Izeze commended Obakpor Engineering Company, the contracting firm responsible for these projects, for their high-quality work and the speed at which they mobilized to the site. The state government’s decision to award concrete road designs with drainage on both sides aims for long-term durability and effective water management.

Speaking about Governor Oborevrwori’s commitment to complete ongoing projects, Commissioner Izeze highlighted the need for support, patience, and cooperation from the people of Delta State to achieve these goals.

The Commissioner assured regular site visits to monitor project progress and ensure compliance with quality standards as outlined in the Bill of Quantity (BOQ). He also issued a stern warning that contractors delivering substandard work would face legal consequences.

Olorogu John Oguma, Chairman of Obakpor Engineering, reaffirmed his firm’s commitment to delivering superior roads and bridges. The Managing Director, Mr. Ricardo Oguma, expressed their dedication to maintaining a high standard in delivering quality projects.

The community welcomed the road projects, expressing gratitude to Governor Oborevrwori for enhancing their socio-economic lives after years of poor road conditions. They pledged their support to the state government’s efforts.

In a related development, Commissioner Reuben Izeze also inspected the Midsea Geotechnical services, a 120-ton-per-hour Asphalt Plant, situated at Kilometer 5, Merije, in Effurun-Sapele Express Way, Okpe local government area. This initiative will facilitate access to construction materials and contribute to the region’s development.

Despite heavy rainfall, Commissioner Izeze and his team inspected areas with perennial flooding issues in Udu local government, empathizing with the affected residents. The Governor will be briefed on these challenges, and residents appealed for the construction of drainage systems and roads to alleviate flooding.
