Delta State Government Transfers 215 Hectares for Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has officially transferred 215 hectares of land to the federal government for the establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale. This significant move was marked by the formal handing over of land documents to the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, in Asaba on Thursday.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, expressed the state’s eagerness to see the swift commencement of academic activities at the university. He detailed that 200 hectares of the land would serve as the permanent site for the institution, while 15 hectares had been designated for the temporary site.

During the ceremony, Governor Oborevwori handed over the Certificates of Occupancy for both the temporary and permanent sites to the Minister’s representative, Mrs. Rakiya Ilyasu Gambo, Director of Education. In a further show of support, the state government also handed over the General Hospital in Kwale to be used as the Teaching Hospital for the university.

Governor Oborevwori thanked the federal government, particularly President Bola Tinubu and the Minister of Education, for selecting Delta State as the host for the new Federal University. He noted that the establishment of the university had been a longstanding dream of the people of the state, now finally coming to fruition.

The governor emphasized the state’s commitment to partnering with the university to ensure a smooth and successful launch of academic activities. He assured the federal authorities that Delta State would provide full support to the university’s development.

In her remarks, the Minister of Education’s representative, Mrs. Gambo, acknowledged that her team had conducted an inspection of the temporary and permanent sites, as well as the General Hospital, and expressed satisfaction with the facilities. She commended the Delta State Government for its substantial support and for providing the necessary land documentation.

The handover ceremony was attended by key officials, including the Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh; Commissioner for Urban Renewal, Engr. Mike Anoka; Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerovwo Tonukari; and the Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibuogwu.
