UGHELLI/Nigeria: The State Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Comrade Reuben Izeze, has lauded the ongoing construction of the Orere bridge in Ughelli South Local Government Area, stating that the project underscores Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to “Opportunities for all” as outlined in his MORE Agenda,
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the construction site, Comrade Izeze commended the indigenous contracting firm, Obakpor Engineering Limited, for their work on the project. He emphasized the importance of patronizing contractors with proven competence and capacity to deliver on such crucial infrastructure projects.
“I am very pleased with this project, the famous Orere bridge because it’s something I advocated for over the years,” stated Comrade Izeze, a former member representing Ughelli South Constituency. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made by Obakpor Engineering, highlighting their transformation from a company previously accused of cutting corners to one now delivering commendable results.
“The quality of your work will determine how much patronage you will receive from the government,” affirmed Comrade Izeze, emphasizing the bridge’s significance in connecting communities across the Orere river.
Addressing concerns about potential flooding, Comrade Izeze explained that the bridge was meticulously designed to withstand high floodwaters, ensuring uninterrupted usage even during the rainy season. He praised the state government for awarding the project, further reinforcing the MORE Agenda’s commitment to providing opportunities for all.
The State Director of Highways, Engr. Mrs Juliet Aboloje, provided technical details, stating that the Orere bridge spans 500 meters, comprising 25 spans of 20 meters each. The project includes a 4.3km access road and 1.36km arterial roads.
The Managing Director of Obakpor Engineering Limited, Olorogun John Oguma, assured that the company remains dedicated to completing the project as per the set target. He acknowledged delays due to yearly flooding but expressed confidence in completing the decking by February to March and the entire project within the next nine months.
“The taste of the pudding is in the eating. We are trying our best as one of the best indigenous contractors around the state to ensure that we deliver the best quality roads and bridges for our dear state,” affirmed Olorogun John Oguma, expressing gratitude to the state government for entrusting them with this crucial project.
As the construction progresses, the Orere bridge is poised to become a symbol of the Delta State Government’s commitment to infrastructure development and creating opportunities for all citizens.
