Delta State Governor Commends Retired Civil Servant, Urges Emulation of Exemplary Service

ASABA/Nigeria: At a grand reception held at the Events Centre in Asaba, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, passionately urged civil servants in the state to mirror the exceptional virtues displayed by the retired Permanent Secretary, Sir Edwin Ogidi-Gbegbaje, emphasizing the invaluable contributions he made to governance.

Governor Oborevwori lauded Ogidi-Gbegbaje, hailing him as an embodiment of intelligence, humility, diligence, transparency, selflessness, accountability, and compassion—a consummate bureaucrat whose impact resonated profoundly within the administration.

Expressing gratitude for Ogidi-Gbegbaje’s dedicated and patriotic service to the state, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the retired Permanent Secretary’s instrumental role in facilitating a smooth transition during the initial months of his tenure as Governor.

Speaking of their close collaboration, Governor Oborevwori recounted, “Sir Ogidi-Gbegbaje played his role very well, he is diligent in his duties and was always giving good and useful advice wherever he worked.”

Acknowledging Ogidi-Gbegbaje’s 35 years of unblemished and meritorious service, the Governor highlighted the retiree’s invaluable contributions to the state machinery, urging present civil servants to emulate his unwavering commitment to duty.

During the event, chaired by former Minister of Information, Professor Sam Oyovbaire, accolades poured in for the retiree’s exemplary service and unwavering commitment to duty, with a call for others in the civil service to follow in his footsteps.

Earlier, at a thanksgiving mass held at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Very Rev. Fr. Peter Mobuogwu delivered a poignant homily, advocating for public servants to view their roles as a means of dedicated service to the populace.

Sir Ogidi-Gbegbaje, overwhelmed with gratitude, reflected on his journey, considering the challenges faced as valuable lessons that contributed to his growth. He extended appreciation to his mentors and well-wishers who supported him throughout his illustrious career.

The event witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including the spouses of the Governor and Deputy Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, past Governor of the State, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, senators, justices, and other prominent figures, underscoring the significance of Ogidi-Gbegbaje’s retirement celebration.
