Delta State Governor Condemns Teacher’s Death at the Hands of Parent

ASABA/Nigeria: In a solemn and stern address, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed his condemnation of the tragic events leading to the demise of Mr. Sunday Ufua, a dedicated schoolteacher, purportedly at the hands of an angered parent who allegedly resorted to physical punishment after the teacher disciplined the parent’s wayward child.

Mr. Ufua, who met his untimely end, had been serving as a teacher at Alihami Secondary School, located in Agbor, within the Ika South Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Oborevwori conveyed his condolences to the grieving family of the deceased and extended his sympathies to the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), State Wing in message, signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon.

The Governor stressed the avoidable and condemnable nature of the circumstances that led to Mr. Ufua’s tragic demise. Furthermore, he called upon the law enforcement authorities to promptly investigate the individuals responsible for this grievous act, seeking justice for the deceased.

In a stern warning directed at parents and guardians, the Governor emphasized the unacceptability of resorting to illegal actions against teachers for merely carrying out their duty of disciplining errant students. He underscored that such delinquent actions will not be tolerated within the educational institutions of the state.

Governor Oborevwori made it clear, saying, “I have been briefed on the death of the hardworking schoolteacher of Alihami Secondary School, Agbor, allegedly at the hands of a parent whose son had been punished for alleged bad behavior.”

“While I condole with the bereaved family and teachers across the state on the unfortunate and untimely passing of their father, son, brother, and colleague, I have directed the State Police Command to investigate the allegations against the parent and the student with a view to ensuring justice is served on the matter.”

“As a state government, we frown seriously at parents going to bully teachers for genuinely meting out disciplinary measures against students for bad behaviour such as is alleged in the extant case.”

“I have directed the State Police Command to investigate the case properly and bring the perpetrators to book.”

“On behalf of the government and people of Delta, I commiserate with the Ufua family and teachers across the state on the untimely and unfortunate demise of their father and colleague. As a state, we will never tolerate actions like this in our schools,” Governor Oborevwori warned.
