Delta State Governor Hails Local Government Transformation

SAPELE/Nigeria: In a significant testament to the evolving landscape of governance at the grassroots level, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, affirmed on Wednesday that local administrations in the state have undergone a remarkable transformation, now attuned to the needs and aspirations of the populace.

Governor Oborevwori made these remarks while inaugurating pivotal projects spearheaded by the Chairmen of Warri South and Sapele Local Governments. The ceremonies, graced by dignitaries including former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan and traditional leaders like the Olu of Warri HRM Ogiame Atuwatse III, marked a milestone in the state’s commitment to inclusive development.

In Warri, Governor Oborevwori commended Dr. Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government, for his visionary initiative in repurposing the Warri playground into the Warri South Local Government Cottage Hospital. This transformative move, Governor Oborevwori emphasized, addresses a crucial aspect of his MORE Agenda by enhancing healthcare accessibility, particularly for women, children, and vulnerable groups.

“I have come here today to inaugurate this beautiful cottage hospital,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “I am elated because this hospital will advance the provision of quality healthcare services for the grassroots, which is a cardinal programme of this administration.”

The governor further emphasized the grassroots-centric approach to development, underlining the administration’s unwavering commitment to prioritizing the welfare of the people.

Similarly, in Sapele, Governor Oborevwori inaugurated a suite of projects including the Sapele Local Government Legislative Complex, reconstructed Chairman’s office, schools, markets, and roads. Reflecting on the quality and impact of these initiatives, he commended Chief Eugene Inoaghan, Chairman of Sapele Local Government, for his administration’s dedication to enhancing the socio-economic fabric of the region.

“It is obvious that the narrative is changing in our various local governments,” Governor Oborevwori remarked. “In the past, LGs were often criticised for non-performance. But today, the story has changed, and we now see that our Councils have become more responsive and responsible to the yearnings and aspirations of our people.”

The governor’s sentiments were echoed by former Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, who lauded the proactive efforts of local administrations and reiterated the indispensable role of peace and security in fostering development.

In response, Dr. Michael Tidi highlighted his administration’s achievements in primary healthcare and environmental sustainability, emphasizing a holistic approach to community well-being. Chief Eugene Inoaghan similarly underscored the pivotal role of infrastructure projects in catalyzing economic growth and improving livelihoods.

As Delta State charts a course towards prosperity and inclusivity, Governor Oborevwori’s call for accountable and people-centric governance resonates as a guiding principle, heralding a new era of responsiveness and progress at the grassroots level.
