Delta State Governor Highlights Significance of Federal Road Reconstruction during Minister’s Visit

ASABA/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has emphasised the critical importance of reconstructing federal roads during a recent visit by the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, to inspect the deteriorating state of federal roads within the state. Represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori underscored the vital role that well-maintained roads play in the socio-economic life of the people.

During the inspection, Governor Oborevwori expressed his confidence in Engr. Umahi, citing the Minister’s track record as the former Governor of Ebonyi State. He stated, “Accomplishing the task of reconstructing the roads means a lot to us as Deltans and as Nigerians in general.”

The Governor emphasised that Engr. Umahi’s personal inspection of the roads by driving through them was essential for the federal government to fully appreciate their significance.

He expressed his satisfaction with the Minister’s visit, saying, “We have seen your handiwork when you were the Governor of Ebonyi State in the area of road construction, and we are happy that you are here. So, we have no fear and have no doubt that you will ensure the construction of these roads to the satisfaction of Nigerians and us here in Delta State.”

He also reassured the Minister of the Delta State government’s full cooperation and support in accomplishing the road reconstruction task, stating, “Delta State will give you all the cooperation and support that you need.”

In response, Minister Engr. Dave Umahi expressed his concerns about the state of the East/West road, particularly at the boundary between Delta and Edo States.

He noted, “For more than 10 kilometers, vehicles are lined up with no movement, so economic activities are totally grounded between Delta and Edo States; this is not acceptable.”

He commended the Deputy Governor of Delta State for his presence, indicating the strong partnership and commitment to addressing the pressing road issues.

Umahi further stated, “Mr. President asked me to come and inspect the roads and see the immediate relief we can give the people while major construction will start soon.”

He assured both Delta State government and its citizens that immediate action would be taken to address the road challenges.

Among the roads inspected during the visit were the East/West Road (the boundary between Edo and Delta), Sapele/Agbor Road, and NPA Road, underscoring the urgent need for rehabilitation to enhance the region’s connectivity and economic activities.
