AKWUKWU-IGBO/Nigeria: In a significant boost to the local economy of Delta State, the Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commended the inauguration of a state-of-the-art 10 metric tonnes per hour oil palm processing mill at Akwukwu-Igbo in Oshimili North local government area. The event, held at Norsworthy Farms and Agro Allied Industries, marks a milestone in public-private collaboration, Governor Oborevwori emphasized.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Governor Oborevwori lauded the former Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, for his unwavering support towards establishing the farm, highlighting the strategic importance of such ventures in bolstering the state’s economy.
“It is my pleasure to be here today to inaugurate this ultra-modern oil processing plant, which is a great addition to our local economy and an excellent example of public-private partnership,” Governor Oborevwori stated. “It is a glorious opportunity for us to maximize our comparative advantage in oil palm production and transform the agricultural landscape in the state.”
He further acknowledged the vision and dedication of Engr Gabriel Ogbechie, the Chairman of Norsworthy Farms Limited, as an exemplary contributor to the state’s economic progress. Governor Oborevwori urged other successful businessmen from the state to follow Ogbechie’s lead in investing in Delta’s economy, emphasizing the significance of homegrown investments.
The governor underscored the potential of such investments to drive economic diversification, enhance competitiveness, and stimulate exports, addressing challenges such as foreign exchange fluctuations. He also expressed pride in the administration’s commitment to boosting food security and fostering agricultural growth across the state.
“Delta is very peaceful, stable, and we welcome all investors to come to the state,” Governor Oborevwori affirmed, highlighting the legislative measures in place to protect public and private property. He assured prospective investors of the state’s safety and conducive business environment.
Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past Governor, echoed these sentiments, urging wealthy citizens to invest in palm oil production and lamenting the country’s dependence on palm oil imports. He emphasized the economic benefits of the outgrowers’ scheme and encouraged local communities to participate in the project.
In his remarks, Dr. Gabriel Ogbechie, the Managing Director of Norsworthy Farms and Agro-Allied Industries, highlighted Nigeria’s shift from being a net exporter to a net importer of palm oil. He pledged to expand investments in the state’s agricultural value chain, expressing gratitude to Governor Oborevwori and his predecessor for their support.
The inauguration of the oil palm processing mill stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between the public and private sectors in driving economic growth and prosperity in Delta State.
