ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed profound shock and sorrow following the tragic demise of Mr. Herbert Wigwe, Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Access Bank, along with his wife, Doreen, and son, Chizi, in a devastating helicopter crash in the United States of America over the weekend.
In an official statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, on Monday, Governor Oborevwori described the untimely deaths as “awful, heartbreaking, startling, and devastating.”
The Governor also extended his condolences to the family of the former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc (NGX Group), Abimbola Ogunbanjo, among others who lost their lives in the tragic accident.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized Mr. Wigwe’s significant contributions to the banking and business landscape, portraying him as a visionary leader and a consummate professional. He noted that Wigwe’s influence would be profoundly missed in Nigeria’s corporate world.
“I am deeply saddened by the unfortunate news of the death of Mr. Herbert Wigwe, the Group CEO of Access Bank, alongside his wife and son, as well as Abimbola Ogunbanjo, a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, and others in a helicopter crash in the United States of America,” stated Governor Oborevwori.
“Wigwe was a visionary leader who had a big influence on Nigeria’s banking industry. His passing is undoubtedly a devastating loss for the finance sector.”
Expressing his heartfelt condolences, Governor Oborevwori extended prayers to the bereaved family, Access Holdings, friends, and loved ones, seeking divine strength to endure the irreparable losses.
“My sincere condolences to his family, colleagues at Access Holdings, friends, and loved ones in this difficult time. May God grant them the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss, and may the souls of the departed find eternal rest in the bosom of our Lord,” concluded Governor Oborevwori.
