ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has profound sadness over the demise of Justice Chima Nweze, a respected Justice of the Supreme Court. Justice Nweze, who held the fifth most senior position among the 13 judges of the Supreme Court, passed away at the age of 64 in Abuja on Sunday.
The late Justice Nweze was elevated to the esteemed bench of the Supreme Court in 2014 and made significant contributions as a member of various panels that rendered consequential judgments. His legal expertise and intellect had a notable impact on the development of Nigeria’s law and jurisprudence.
Governor Oborevwori, in his message extended his heartfelt condolences to the Supreme Court of Nigeria, the Government, and people of Enugu State, as well as Justice Nweze’s Obollo community in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State. He described the late Justice as a quintessential and intellectual jurist, attributing his numerous decisions to the advancement of justice delivery in the country.
“The news of his Lordship’s death came to me as a great shock, and I send my heartfelt condolences to his family, the Government and people of Enugu State, as well as his colleagues at the Supreme Court on the passing of the renowned statesman and serving Justice of the Supreme Court,” the Governor remarked.
Governor Oborevwori further praised Justice Nweze’s oratory prowess, acknowledging him as a well-respected and regarded jurist whose contributions to the growth of the judiciary in the country will be dearly missed. He expressed his sorrow on behalf of the Government and people of Delta State, emphasizing that Justice Nweze’s humility and wealth of knowledge had been an inspiration to many.
“As an erudite jurist and great intellectual, who possessed great oratorical prowess, Justice Nweze was a great inspiration and man of insight and contributed immensely to the development of our Country’s jurisprudence in the several capacities he served,” the Governor added.
The passing of Justice Chima Nweze leaves a void in Nigeria’s legal fraternity, and his contributions will be remembered as a significant legacy that has shaped the course of justice in the nation. His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched through his service to the judiciary and the nation.
