Delta State Governor Orders Comprehensive Audit of Public School Infrastructure

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has taken a significant step towards improving the quality of education in the state by initiating a thorough audit of physical infrastructure in public schools. The announcement was made during a ceremonial handover event at Olomoro Comprehensive High School, Isoko South Local Government Area, where the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) donated staff and teacher quarters to the state government.

In a statement delivered on his behalf by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the importance of evaluating the state’s educational infrastructure. He stated, “We are carrying out a comprehensive audit of physical infrastructure in our primary and secondary schools to enable us to identify any deficiencies and respond accordingly.”

Governor Oborevwori further addressed the issue of manpower shortages in schools, revealing that his administration had recently approved the recruitment of teachers in twenty-two local government councils. He added, “At least, 2000 individuals are expected to be gainfully employed through the ongoing recruitment exercise. My administration will spare no expense in providing the conducive climate essential for a high-quality learning experience.”

Highlighting the need to enhance the learning experience in Delta State’s schools, the governor spoke about the administration’s commitment to periodic curriculum revision. He explained that this approach would incorporate digital literacy, online learning, critical thinking skills, independent learning skills, teamwork, and leadership into the education system. Governor Oborevwori stressed that these efforts aimed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel globally.

Expressing gratitude to the Federal Inland Revenue Service for their contribution, Governor Oborevwori said, “Housing is one of the three fundamental basic human needs, the other two being food and clothing, hence, access to affordable housing is critical to human wellbeing.”

Mrs. Chiaka Ben-Obi, representing FIRS Chairman Muhammad Nami, urged Nigerians to fulfill their tax obligations, highlighting that the donated structures were a tangible example of how tax revenues were utilized for community benefit.

The President-General of the Olomoro Development Union, Deacon Emmanuel Oteri, detailed the nature of the donated structures, which included “2 units of 3-bedroom apartments, 10 units of 2-bedroom apartments, and 10 units of 1-bedroom apartments.”

Prominent figures who attended the event included Hon. Ferguson Onwo, a member of the Delta State House of Assembly representing Isoko South II, and Prof. Christopher Akpotu, President-General of the Isoko Development Union, among others. The community also expressed their appreciation to FIRS for choosing their location for this charitable initiative. Notable attendees included HRM Isaiah Edekere Isike I, the Odio-Ologbo of Olomoro Kingdom, members of the Delta State House of Assembly, Commissioners, and various political officeholders.
