Delta State Governor Pledges Development Support as He Receives Olu

ASABA/Nigeria: Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has pledged development support for Warri, the Commercial nerve centre of the state.

The Governor Stated this in a  meeting at the Government House, Asaba, when he received  the Olu of Warri Kingdom, HRM Atuwatse III, CFR, alongside his retinue of chiefs, expressing profound appreciation for their presence.

Highlighting the commendable leadership of the Olu of Warri, Governor Oborevwori stated, “I appreciate you for the love you have shown this administration. You have been very supportive, and I appreciate you for coming here today to congratulate me. As a royal father, you prayed for all of us (Governorship candidates) and your prayer then was that God should give the state somebody that will move the state higher.”

He further acknowledged the pivotal role of traditional rulers in governance, emphasizing their significance as the bridge between the grassroots and the government. “Without the royal fathers, we can’t achieve peace in all our kingdoms. So, they are in charge of their kingdoms; that’s why we always go to them to seek their prayers and support,” he added.

Governor Oborevwori assured the Olu of Warri of his commitment to addressing the developmental needs of Warri, including infrastructure and drainage projects. He affirmed, “Warri will have a positive new face in Jesus’ name.”

Regarding the contentious issue of renaming parts of Warri, the Governor cautioned against actions that could disrupt the existing peace in the city, emphasizing that “Warri is Warri, and nobody can change it.”

On the revitalization of ports in Delta State, Governor Oborevwori pledged to engage with the Federal Government, recognizing the significance of the ports for the state’s development. He also expressed optimism regarding the rehabilitation of the refinery in Warri.

Responding to the request for clean water in riverine areas, Governor Oborevwori assured that ongoing projects would address this issue, highlighting the collaboration with the Commissioner for Water Resources.

Expressing gratitude for the support of the Warri Kingdom and the Itsekiri nation during his election, Governor Oborevwori reiterated his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, stating, “No ethnic nationality would be marginalized in my administration.”

Earlier in the meeting, the Olu of Warri, HRM Atuwatse III, CFR, congratulated the Governor on his victory at the Supreme Court and appealed for support in siting an institution of higher learning in Warri Kingdom. He also emphasized the need for infrastructure development and access to potable water in the region.

The meeting witnessed the presence of former Governor of the State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, and top government functionaries from the Itsekiri nation, signifying the importance of collaboration in achieving developmental goals.
