ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has announced plans to allocate a minimum of N1 billion for road construction in each local government area as part of the 2024 budget.
The Governor made this commitment during a courtesy visit from the State Executive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by Rev. Lucky Osagbakhoe, at Government House in Asaba on Wednesday, 2nd October 2024.
In his remarks, Governor Oborevwori emphasised the importance of infrastructural development, stating, “We know it is necessary and we are doing a lot to touch all the local government areas so that when we hold the town hall meetings, we have things to showcase to them.”
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to addressing the needs of residents across the state, underscoring that various projects are already underway.
The Governor also announced plans to hold town hall meetings in each local government area as part of a strategic engagement initiative with the public.
“A lot of projects are going on across the state, and we have made the provision of not less than N1 billion in the 2024 budget for road construction in each local government area,” he added.
Addressing concerns regarding the high cost of living, Oborevwori highlighted the various empowerment programmes implemented by his administration in recent months.
He noted, “A few weeks ago, we did the MORE grant where we empowered 5,000 persons. Recently, we also flagged off the distribution of fertiliser and other agricultural inputs to over 6,000 people in Delta State.”
The Governor acknowledged the broader economic challenges facing the nation but reassured residents that his administration is actively working to mitigate these issues.
“The hard times we are facing now are not peculiar to Delta State, but when you compare what we are doing in Delta with other states, you will see that we are doing our best,” he said.
Oborevwori also reflected on the recent End Bad Governance protests, highlighting Delta State’s peaceful response during a time of potential unrest.
“We believe in dialogue rather than confrontation,” he stated, urging citizens to continue praying for both national and state leadership to ensure good governance.
Earlier, Rev. Lucky Osagbakhoe congratulated Governor Oborevwori on his electoral victory in 2023 and his subsequent legal triumphs. He commended the Delta State Chapter of CAN for its longstanding contributions to peace, progress, and unity in the state.
The Reverend expressed gratitude for the Governor’s efforts in urban renewal, particularly through road construction, and praised his administration’s peace-building initiatives, economic recovery strategies, and social safety nets. He encouraged the Governor to facilitate town hall meetings across the three senatorial districts to engage more effectively with the populace.
Oborevwori’s administration continues to focus on infrastructural development and community engagement as essential components of its governance strategy, aimed at improving the lives of Delta State residents.
