Delta State Governor Receives Prestigious Climate Change Award, Urges Global Clean Energy Investment

DUBAI/United Arab Emirates:  In a compelling appeal at the COP28 conference in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has called upon international clean energy investors for a robust public-private partnership.

This partnership aims to combat global warming while seeking technical aid to advocate against deforestation and bush burning, particularly in Sub-Sahara Africa and underdeveloped nations worldwide.

The Governor’s call was made as he received the distinguished international Champion Award for climate change from Nurses Across Borders (NAB).

Represented by the State Secretary, Dr Kingsley Emu, Oborevwori emphasized Delta State Government’s steadfast commitment to implementing impactful policies to mitigate gas emissions, fossil fuel combustion, tree felling, and other contributors to global warming.

Dr Emu echoed Governor Oborevwori’s stance, highlighting the adverse effects of greenhouse gas emissions on global public health. Emphasizing collaboration between African governments and developed nations, they stressed the urgency to counteract the repercussions of climate change, including heightened temperatures, severe droughts, rising sea levels, species depletion, food scarcity, poverty, and associated health risks.

Quoting the Governor, Dr Emu outlined the state’s deliberate measures to phase out fossil fuel consumption, expressing readiness to collaborate with stakeholders in the transportation sector to adopt electric vehicles. Moreover, he underscored the necessity for technical support from international bodies to drive Delta State’s clean energy initiatives effectively.

Addressing the press post-receiving the award on behalf of Governor Oborevwori, Dr Emu affirmed Delta’s commitment under the governor’s MORE agenda. He assured sustained efforts in implementing purposeful policies to combat global warming, contingent upon the availability of financial resources. He extended gratitude to NAB for the esteemed Award and stressed the imperative role of international support in Delta’s pursuit of clean energy programs.
