ASABA/Nigeria: On Sunday, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori unveiled the Legislative Agenda of the 8th Delta State House of Assembly, marking the culmination of a week-long celebration commemorating the Assembly’s first anniversary.
The event, attended by Deputy Governor Sir Monday Onyeme, Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, principal officers, and other members of the House, highlighted the state’s legislative priorities for the next three years.
Speaking to journalists after the unveiling, Speaker Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor emphasized that the Legislative Agenda will guide the House in its legislative duties. “The document, adopted in the first session, is tailored in the direction of the MORE agenda of the Oborevwori administration,” he explained.
Guwor also noted that the concept of a Legislative Agenda was initially introduced by Governor Oborevwori during his tenure as the Presiding Officer of the 7th Assembly. “The 8th Assembly is honored to have him unveil our Agenda,” Guwor said, expressing gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support, which has facilitated significant achievements in the just-ended session.
The Speaker highlighted the harmonious relationship between the legislative and executive branches in Delta State, expressing optimism for its continuation. He thanked his colleagues for their dedication over the past year and urged them to prioritize the interests of their constituencies and the state above personal gains. “Together, the Legislature and Executive can make a meaningful impact on the lives of Deltans through legislation, oversight, and representation,” he stated.
At a thanksgiving service, the Speaker reflected on the Assembly’s gratitude for divine mercy and the successful completion of their first year since inauguration on June 13, 2023. Guwor pointed out the unique nature of the 8th Assembly, having Governor Oborevwori, a former Presiding Officer, now at the helm of the state. “Governor Oborevwori understands the workings of the State House of Assembly, enabling a robust partnership with the Executive,” he said.
He commended his colleagues for their cooperation and support, adding, “We received 18 bills, both Executive and Private member bills, of which nine have been passed and three assented to.” Guwor expressed appreciation to Deltans for their confidence in the House and assured them of continued dedication.
Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, Chairman of the Planning Committee for the first anniversary, praised the success of various celebratory activities, including a press briefing and a novelty match between members of the House and the Executive. Nwaobi thanked the Speaker for his leadership and everyone involved in making the events successful.
