Delta State Governor Urges Architects to Tackle Building Collapse Crisis

ASABA/Nigeria: In a bid to address the alarming surge in building collapses across the country, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has called upon members of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) to conduct a thorough examination of the root causes of such incidents, aiming to avert this unsettling trend.

During the opening ceremony of the two-day event, “Archi-Delta Expo 2023,” organized by the state chapter of the NIA in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori emphasized the state’s commitment to preventing future building collapses and urged architects to rise to the occasion.

Represented by the Commissioner for Lands, Surveys & Urban Development, Chief Emamusi Obiodeh, Governor Oborevwori highlighted the significance of the Archi-Delta Expo, stating, “Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, from the records, the Archi-Delta Expo is an annual event by the Nigerian Institute of Architects, Delta State chapter, where it presents impactful lectures in the building industry, innovative products exhibition, and presentation of awards to deserving individuals, consultants, infrastructural companies, and government.”

The Governor also expressed his admiration for this year’s theme, “Sustainable Development 111 is here again,” underscoring its relevance in a period marred by recurring building collapses. He urged the NIA to seize the opportunity to scrutinize the causes of these incidents and propose enduring solutions.

Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing ongoing projects and initiating new ones to advance the state’s infrastructural and human capital development, aligning with the “M.O.R.E agenda.”

He concluded by expressing his optimism for collaboration between the NIA and the State Government, emphasizing their shared vision for sustainable development.

The Governor commended the NIA, Delta State chapter, for the well-organized program and its far-reaching impact on Delta State’s residents and government.
