ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has called for collaboration between the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and state governments to ensure the Niger Delta region benefits from President Bola Tinubu’s administration through quality projects.
Governor Oborevwori emphasized the need for joint efforts to enhance the living conditions of the region’s inhabitants during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Momoh, and his delegation on Saturday.
The governor lauded Minister Momoh on his appointment and highlighted the importance of appointing individuals from the region to oversee development projects. He referred to a recent visit by the Minister of Works, Engr David Umahi, who witnessed the deplorable conditions of federal roads in the state, including the Warri-Benin Road and the East-West Road.
Governor Oborevwori stressed that the region, which contributes significantly to the nation’s wealth, deserved special attention. He urged the minister to ensure proper execution of road projects, enhance security, provide shore protection, and address youth restiveness. Additionally, he emphasized the need to combat erosion in riverine areas and improve the region’s road infrastructure.
Governor Oborevwori noted that his administration remained committed to executing quality projects and had approved the payment of over N5.5 billion in promotion arrears for civil servants. He also disclosed plans to collaborate with Julius Berger to undertake projects in Warri and Effurun.
Engr. Momoh, speaking on behalf of the delegation, stated their purpose of visiting the Niger Delta region as part of a stakeholders’ outreach to assess the situation and challenges. He underscored the importance of collaborating with state governors to promote development and peace in the region.
He further elaborated on President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda, which includes eight presidential priorities, and expressed the ministry’s willingness to work closely with state governments to identify key areas for project implementation, with the aim of bringing about positive change in the Niger Delta region.
