ASABA/Nigeria: In a recent interview on the Morning Ride Show of the State Television, Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor, Dr. (Barr.) Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, shed light on the intricacies of the state’s ambitious N714.4 billion Budget of Hope and Optimism. He stated that the fiscal plan, named by Governor Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, encompasses various strategic allocations, notably earmarking N150 billion for personnel expenditure.
Oghenesivbe underscored the forward-thinking approach of Governor Oborevwori, who proactively designated funds in anticipation of potential federal salary adjustments in 2024. This move aims to position Delta State at the forefront, ensuring necessary salary modifications align with the state’s financial framework.
“Governor Oborevwori’s vision behind this budget is to propel sustainable economic growth, stimulate investments and productivity, facilitate business operations, and enable increased participation of citizens in the economy,” stated Oghenesivbe, quoting the governor.
Breaking down the budget proposal, the Governor’s Executive Assistant delineated major allocations: N150 billion for road infrastructure, N46.55 billion for Education, N18.65 billion for Health, N7.5 billion for Urban Renewal, N7 billion for Agriculture, N2.1 billion for Environment, and N1.7 billion for Youth Development. These allocations, he emphasized, target pivotal sectors vital to the state’s economy.
Furthermore, Oghenesivbe reaffirmed Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to supporting the populace during challenging times. He highlighted recent initiatives such as the launch of the N78 billion road infrastructure projects, indicating the governor’s steadfast dedication to fulfilling campaign promises and fostering tangible development.
Regarding the circulating audio alleging a $7 million bribe related to certain court cases, Oghenesivbe clarified that neither the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nor its candidates were implicated in the conversation. He attributed the audio’s origin to the opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting it was a deliberate attempt to deceive the public.
“The 2024 Delta Budget of Hope and Optimism is strategically designed to advance infrastructure and socioeconomic growth,” emphasized Oghenesivbe. “Governor Oborevwori’s focus on key sectors aims to benefit the people and the state substantially.”
Addressing concerns about the audio, Oghenesivbe reiterated the PDP’s non-involvement and dismissed it as propaganda by the APC. He expressed confidence in the judiciary’s process, emphasizing the strength of PDP’s case and Governor Oborevwori’s impending victory at the Supreme Court.
“The facts in the Tribunal favored us, and the Court of Appeal upheld our victory. We are poised to win at the highest level—the Supreme Court—thanks to the merits of our case,” affirmed Oghenesivbe, exuding confidence in the party’s position.
