ASABA/Nigeria: The commitment to fostering collaboration between the Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Urban Renewal and the Ministry of Urban Renewal took center stage during the ongoing budget defense sessions within the State Assembly.
Chairman Hon Pereotu Oloye affirmed the committee’s dedication to aligning efforts with the ministry to achieve the state government’s ambitious plan for developing new towns and cities.
Hon Oloye emphasized the pivotal role of new urban centers in the state’s growth trajectory, praising Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s proactive stance in implementing the MORE agenda. Promising efficient oversight functions, the lawmaker underscored the committee’s commitment to propelling development and prosperity across the state. Additionally, he acknowledged Speaker Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor for maintaining the legislature’s crucial role in effective governance.
Commissioner Engr. Michael Anoka reiterated the Delta State Government’s unwavering dedication to urban renewal by proposing a substantial allocation of N7.5 Billion for the upcoming fiscal year. He highlighted the budget’s aim to bolster the administration’s urban renewal endeavors.
Anoka also stressed the necessity of engaging more town planners—seeking the House committee’s support in meeting this requirement—to drive the state government’s vision effectively.
Meanwhile, Hon Fred Martins, Chair of the Assembly Committee on Lands, Survey, and Urban Development, urged ministry officials to elevate their performance in realizing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s vision for the sector.
Hon Martins commended the ministry’s previous year’s performance but stressed the imperative for continued improvement in line with the MORE mantra.
Commissioner Chief Emamusi Obiodeh assured lawmakers of the state government’s ample land reserves for serious investors interested in establishing new towns and industrial parks within Delta State. He defended the 2024 budget proposal, highlighting the ministry’s plans to digitize operations, aiming to eliminate delays and enhance revenue generation.
Chief Obiodeh outlined the forthcoming system’s benefits, noting that upon completion, property investors worldwide could access information on government portals regarding properties and land in Delta State, signaling a progressive step toward modernization and accessibility.
