Delta State House of Assembly Mourns the Passing of Asagba of Asaba

ASABA/Nigeria: In a somber acknowledgment of loss, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has extended condolences to the people of Asaba and indeed all Deltans, as well as the traditional institution across Nigeria, following the passing of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Prof Joseph Chike Edozie, CFR.

Expressing deep sorrow at the news of the revered traditional ruler’s transition, Speaker Guwor conveyed his dismay, particularly as preparations for the monarch’s centenary birthday celebration were reaching their culmination.

In an official statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, the Speaker described the demise of the Asagba as a significant loss to the entire state, emphasizing the profound impact on the people of Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

Rt Hon Guwor paid tribute to the late monarch, recognizing him as both a unifier and a cerebral traditional ruler whose legacy boasts unparalleled positive achievements. Reflecting on Prof Edozien’s extensive career as a lecturer at the University of Benin and his three-decade reign as the Asagba of Asaba, the Speaker highlighted the unprecedented peace and development witnessed under his leadership.

While acknowledging the monarch’s remarkable longevity, having reached the age of 100, Speaker Guwor stressed the ongoing need for his wise counsel, not only for governmental bodies at all levels but also for the Delta State House of Assembly.

Furthermore, the Speaker underscored the indelible impact Prof Chike Edozien had on humanity, expressing the profound sense of loss felt by all who had the privilege of encountering him.
