ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State House of Assembly, led by the esteemed RT. Hon. Guwor Emomotimi Dennis, Speaker, has reconvened with a focused agenda to address critical economic challenges afflicting the state and the nation.
The Speaker, in his address to the House on resumption of Plenary, expressed gratitude for the gift of life and mercy, while passionately calling for a united front in the quest to alleviate the hardships faced by the citizens.
The economic quagmire assumed center stage in the speaker’s remarks, urging colleagues to continue demonstrating love for their constituents. He lauded Members for their commendable outreach efforts during the yuletide season, underscoring the imperative of solidarity in the face of adversity.
A significant moment during the session was the congratulatory message extended to Governor Sheriff Francis Orohwedor Oborevwori for his resounding victory at the Supreme Court on January 19, 2024.
The court’s decision, which affirmed the governor’s landslide victory in the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial election, was hailed as a triumph for democracy and the rule of law. The Speaker called on all Deltans to unite behind Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, emphasizing the need to prioritize the state’s development over individual interests.
Reflecting on the achievements of the 8th Assembly in the past seven months, he highlighted the passage of several crucial bills, including the Appropriation Bill, 2024, which he said received the governor’s assent on December 20, 2023.
The speaker pledged the assembly’s unwavering commitment to overseeing the budget’s implementation, with a steadfast focus on accountability, transparency, and efficiency.
In furtherance of their legislative responsibilities, the speaker announced plans for a retreat aimed at formulating a comprehensive Legislative Agenda for the 8th Assembly. This strategic roadmap will guide the assembly’s activities, ensuring alignment with constitutional mandates of lawmaking, representation, and oversight.
As the Delta State House of Assembly resumes its sessions, the prevailing theme is one of optimism and determination to navigate the economic challenges facing the state. The assembly has pledged to work collaboratively for the development, progress, and unity of Delta State, embodying a renewed sense of purpose as they embark on the legislative journey ahead.
