Delta State House of Assembly Speaker Calls for Unity and Security on Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Anniversary

ASABA/Nigeria: In commemoration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independent Anniversary, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor, has called for a more united and secure nation to pave the way for a brighter future.

In his congratulatory message to Nigerians, with a special focus on the people of Delta State, Rt Hon Guwor emphasized the potential of the nation’s multi-ethnic diversity as a valuable asset for positive development.

While acknowledging the achievements made thus far as a nation, he stressed that there remains much work to be done in the journey of Nigeria’s development.

Highlighting the significant role that Delta State plays as a major oil-producing region, Guwor underscored the substantial contributions of the state to the overall development of the nation, considering that oil remains the cornerstone of Nigeria’s economy.

Despite Delta State’s commitment to its contributions, Guwor, who also serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, appealed to the federal government to address the pressing challenges confronting the nation. He expressed particular concern regarding the deplorable state of federal roads across the country and the pervasive issue of insecurity, both of which have had a detrimental impact on investment in Nigeria.

Guwor stated, “I congratulate Nigerians, particularly Deltans on the 63rd Independence Anniversary. As a people, we have not done badly, but there are still a lot of things to be addressed. At 63, it is expected that by now we should have transitioned from being seen as a developing nation to a developed one. All the same, it is better late than never.”

Continuing, he urged, “So my appeal is for the federal government to address challenges facing the nation. A state of emergency is required in some sectors. Federal roads are in shambles. The plague of insecurity in the country continues to be so disturbing. All these and many others need to be tackled as quickly as possible to guarantee a greater tomorrow.”

While expressing his hopes for a better Nigeria, Guwor expressed confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in Delta State, highlighting its commitment to advancing sustainable development in the state. He reassured that the state legislature stands ready to collaborate with the executive branch and other crucial stakeholders to propel the state towards a brighter future.
