ASABA/Nigeria: Speaker Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor of the Delta State House of Assembly has emphasized the assembly’s dedication to prioritizing the security and welfare of the people of Delta State.
The Speaker made this statement in his address during the first plenary session of the 8th Assembly, on Tuesday, June 27, 2023.
He stated the members regardless of political party affiliations, should work together toward achieving the security and welfare of the people.
Congratulating the members on their successful swearing-in, Speaker Guwor expressed readiness to commence work immediately. He highlighted that the legislators had been equipped with essential skills in legislative practice and procedures, enabling them to effectively serve their constituents.
As representatives of the people, Guwor admonished the lawmakers to place the security and welfare of their constituents at the forefront of their legislative duties. He called upon them to collaborate as a unified team, transcending party affiliations, to establish good governance in the state, with the people’s interests as their primary focus.
Recognizing the importance of cooperation, the Speaker emphasized that while maintaining their independence as a House, they would collaborate with the Executive arm of Government to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people. Guwor stressed that both the Legislature and the Executive are mere trustees of the people, and it is their duty to work together for the benefit of Deltans.
Expressing gratitude to God for their successful inauguration, Speaker Guwor expressed hope that his colleagues had taken some rest during the short break following the ceremony. He reiterated his commitment to hitting the ground running, ensuring that the House fulfills its responsibilities. Furthermore, he expressed his confidence in the collective efforts of the assembly members to prioritize the security and welfare of the constituents.
