ASABA/Nigeria: Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has reaffirmed his dedication to enhancing the capacity of the legislative workforce. Speaking at the commencement of a two-day retreat for management staff, Guwor emphasized the Assembly’s ongoing efforts to promote efficiency and ensure the effective implementation of the Legislative Agenda of the 8th Assembly.
The retreat, themed “Towards Effective Collaboration For Delivering The Legislative Agenda of the 8th Assembly,” aims to align the Assembly’s activities with the recently unveiled agenda. Guwor underscored the Assembly’s commitment to peace and prosperity in Delta State, in harmony with Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Mantra.
Highlighting the importance of collective effort, Guwor stressed the need for continuous training and retraining of legislative staff. He urged participants to use the retreat as an opportunity to strategize and brainstorm on achieving the Assembly’s vision.
“The Legislative Agenda is now a public policy document, and all House activities must align with it. It is crucial to bring the management team up to speed with this agenda,” Guwor stated. He also promised that the Assembly’s leadership, in partnership with the Executive, will prioritize staff welfare, training, and development.
“As bureaucrats, your duties are strategic and central to the Legislature’s success. This retreat will enhance your capacity for more effective service delivery. Sharing moments like this allows us to cross-fertilize ideas for the betterment of the House’s administration,” Guwor added.
The Speaker praised Governor Oborevwori for his visionary leadership and commended the Assembly’s management team, led by Acting Clerk Mr. Otto Aghoghophia, for their relentless efforts.
Acting Clerk Otto Aghoghophia expressed optimism that the retreat would broaden the management staff’s knowledge, ensuring quality service delivery. “This retreat bridges the gap in management’s understanding of the Legislative Agenda of the 8th Assembly. The robust exchange of ideas here will help achieve our key objectives,” Aghoghophia said.
Aghoghophia thanked the Assembly’s leadership for approving and funding the 2024 staff training. “Since the inception of management retreats by the Delta State House of Assembly, they have been consistently held. The management and staff will continue to support and work with you to achieve the goals of the Legislative Agenda,” he assured.
John Mutu, head of the resource team from the African Parliamentary Resource Center (APRC), lauded the Assembly’s commitment to staff development. “Delta State Assembly is ahead of many others in Nigeria in terms of training and retraining its workforce,” Mutu noted.
Participants expressed gratitude to Speaker Guwor and his team for the retreat, which they believe will inspire and motivate them in their duties. The opening ceremony was attended by several principal officers and Assembly members.
