Delta State Officials Express Grief and Demand Action Following Tragic Koko Junction Fire

OGHARA/Nigeria: In a visit to the scene of the devastating fire incident at Koko Junction, Ugbenu-Oghara along the Benin-Warri route in the Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, the Delta State Commissioner for Bureau for Special Duties, Hon. Terry Etacherure, and the Chairman of Ethiope West Local Government Council, Hon. Oghenedoro Owoso, expressed their profound sadness over the loss of lives. The tragic incident, widely attributed to the deplorable condition of the road, has left a community in mourning.

The commissioner and the council chairman, accompanied by their team, stood witness to the wreckage caused by the fire and shared their heartfelt condolences with the families of the victims who tragically lost their lives. They also took the opportunity to impart an important message to the public, urging everyone to exercise caution and stay clear of accident scenes involving fuel-laden trucks.

Speaking to reporters at the scene, Commissioner Hon. Terry Etacherure explained that his presence was to assess the extent of the damage and convey his sympathies to the affected families. He revealed that he was acting on the instructions of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who was deeply saddened by the news of the disaster.

Commissioner Etacherure further disclosed that he had brought a team from the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) fire service dispatched by the governor from Asaba. He emphasized that Governor Oborevwori was profoundly disturbed by the terrible calamity and extended his condolences to the grieving families.

In a fervent plea, Etacherure called upon the federal government and the Federal Ministry of Works to take immediate action in rehabilitating the perilous road to prevent any more occurrences of such tragic incidents. He highlighted the significant loss of life and the immense suffering and losses endured by many due to the road’s deteriorating condition.
