Delta State Remains Safe Despite Misleading Video Claims, Says Dr. Latimore …. Says Oborevwori Administration Committed to Strengthening Security and Public Safety

ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State’s Orientation and Communications Bureau has rejected claims of heightened insecurity presented by a young woman in a viral social media video. The video, which alleged increased kidnapping and sexual violence in Warri, Osubi, Otokutu, Agbarho, and Otuama communities, has been described as misleading and lacking objectivity.

In a statement issued on Saturday, Dr. (Barr) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, the Chief Executive Officer of the Bureau, emphasized that Delta State is one of the safest regions in Nigeria. This safety, he attributed to the collaborative efforts of security agencies and the governance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori since his administration began on May 29, 2023.

“Insecurity has been a pervasive issue nationally over the past two decades, exacerbated by activities of bandits, herdsmen, and other criminal elements. Addressing this challenge is a collective responsibility of both the government and the public through vigilance and cooperation,” Oghenesivbe said.

He criticized the viral video, labeling it as “deliberate media propaganda” designed to undermine the efforts of security personnel who are actively working to maintain safety and security in the state. Oghenesivbe urged residents to dismiss the video, which he claims is part of a broader political scheme to discredit the current administration.

“The video lacks specific details and credible evidence,” Oghenesivbe noted. “It appears to be a strategic attempt by political detractors to tarnish the reputation of Governor Oborevwori, who has made significant strides in improving safety and security through his MORE Agenda.”

He assured the public that the governor remains committed to supporting security agencies with necessary resources to enhance their operational effectiveness. “Governor Oborevwori will continue to provide logistics and other essential support to bolster effective policing and the protection of life and property,” Oghenesivbe added.

The Bureau’s cyber surveillance team is investigating the source of the misleading video to identify its sponsors. Meanwhile, Oghenesivbe called on Deltans to ignore the false claims and expressed appreciation for the efforts of the state police and other security agencies.

“Delta State is recognized for its safety, as supported by various security reports from reputable agencies and organizations,” Oghenesivbe concluded.
