Delta State Revenue Chairman Urges Opponents to Embrace Governor’s Victory in Supreme Court Ruling

ASABA/Nigeria: In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s recent dismissal of Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi’s appeal against Governor Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Hon (Chief) Solomon Ighrakpata, Chairman of the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue Service (IRS), has issued a strong admonition to opponents of Governor Oborevwori in the March 2023 governorship election in Delta State.

In his statement, Ighrakpata called on the opposition to accept the outcome of the election and rally behind the Governor’s “MORE agenda” for the greater interest of Deltans.

Ighrakpata emphasized the importance of acknowledging that in any political contest, there will be a winner, and the 2023 gubernatorial election in Delta State was no exception. According to him, Oborevwori’s victory was well-deserved, with an overwhelming show of support from voters that created a significant gap between him and the candidates of other political parties.

Representing Uvwie Constituency in the previous political dispensation, Ighrakpata extended an olive branch to the three major opponents in the election – Ovie Omo-Agege, Kenneth Gbagi, and Ken Pela. He urged them to set aside their differences and unite in support of Governor Oborevwori, who he believes has been chosen by both the people and a higher power to lead the state.

Highlighting the significance of the opponents’ support, Ighrakpata stressed that Omo-Agege, Gbagi, and Pela are all major stakeholders in the Urhobo nation, and their endorsement of the Governor’s leadership would further strengthen the vision of a united and prosperous state.

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s ruling, Ighrakpata described it as a testament to the overwhelming support Governor Oborevwori received from the people on Election Day. He labeled the litigation as a “waste of time,” an “academic exercise,” and devoid of any substantial value.

The former lawmaker underscored the importance of ending the legal battles and embracing a period of peace, especially among fellow Urhobo natives, asserting that the time for reconciliation is now.

Ighrakpata expressed his gratitude to Deltans for their unwavering support for the “Advancing Delta Project” initiated by the state government.
