Delta State Solicitor-General Urges Youths to Shun Crime

KWALE/Nigeria: The Delta State Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Justice, Mr. Omamuzo Erebe, has urged youths to steer clear of criminal activities for their own benefit.

Erebe made this call in Kwale during an interaction with journalists following a visit to the Kwale Correctional Centre by the State Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Tessy Diai. He advised young people to live honest lives and avoid actions that could result in imprisonment.

Speaking on the Chief Judge’s prison visit, Erebe commended the meticulous and diligent approach taken by Justice Diai in reviewing individual cases of the inmates. He also praised the Ministry of Justice staff for their dedication in ensuring that witnesses were present to provide testimony in court. The Solicitor-General highlighted that the Ministry’s staff had consistently demonstrated their commitment and effectiveness during the exercise.

Erebe noted that many cases were nearing judgment, signifying the effectiveness of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law 2022 in the state. He also expressed gratitude to other stakeholders in the criminal justice system for their dedication to the success of the exercise.

Earlier, Honourable Justice Theresa Diai, while reviewing the cases, stated that 244 cases were initially listed. However, due to the conclusion of some cases or the release of some inmates on bail, only 215 cases were reviewed.

She noted that none of the reviewed inmates were released or granted bail as their cases were still ongoing in various courts. Justice Diai also commended all stakeholders for their efforts, particularly the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), emphasizing that the swift progress of trials would not be possible without their input.
