ASABA/Nigeria: Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, has called for a deeper spiritual commitment as Deltans, particularly Catholic faithful, observe the beginning of Lent today. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, Guwor emphasized the importance of walking and working closely with God during this period.
Guwor encouraged Christians across Delta State and beyond to utilize the Lenten season to intensify their prayers, especially for the state and the nation as a whole. He noted the significance of this period coinciding with Valentine’s Day, emphasizing the dual importance of introspection and the celebration of love.
“This period, by the Christian calendar, is a moment of sober reflection. It is a moment that we need to intensify our work and walk with God,” remarked Guwor. He stressed the need for Nigerians to extend genuine love to one another, particularly amidst the challenging economic and security circumstances facing the country.
Acknowledging the prevailing economic and security challenges, Guwor expressed optimism that collective prayers, particularly during Lent, could bring about divine intervention. He urged Nigerians to maintain hope, highlighting the proverbial silver lining at the end of the tunnel.
“As the Lenten season begins today, I wish to sincerely felicitate with our Christian brothers and sisters in Delta State and beyond,” Guwor stated. “This period, by the Christian calendar, is a moment of sober reflection. It is a moment that we need to intensify our work and walk with God.”
Guwor also emphasized the importance of upholding holiness and godly living while admonishing against all forms of criminality and unholy behaviors. He urged citizens to channel their energies towards positive actions and to join in fervent prayers for the nation’s well-being.
“As we observe this Lenten period, I wish to advise that we leverage on it to intervene earnestly in prayers for the State and the nation at large,” Guwor concluded. “There is no doubt that the nation is going through turbulent times in terms of the growing harsh economy. This should also form part of our prayers as we observe the Lenten season.”
