Delta State SSAs Rally for Peace After Recent Security Threats

ASABA/Nigeria: In response to recent upheavals shaking Delta State, the Senior Special Assistants (SSAs) to Governor Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori have issued a resolute call for peace and vigilance across the state.

The communique, signed by  Hon. Lucky Dikadi, Chairman, Hon. Okakuro Jagboro, Vice Chairman, Barr. Roseline Uwubiti, Secretary,  and Chief Abraham Odjighoro, P.R.O & Publicity Secretary, was issued following a meeting convened at El Grand Premium Hotel, Asaba on Thursday, March 21, 2024.

The SSAs condemned two recent catastrophic incidents that have marred the state’s tranquility, notably the violent protests by “Okada” and “Keke” riders in Asaba, and secondly, the tragic killings of soldiers and civilians over a purported land dispute between Okuama and Okoloba communities in Ughelli South and Bomadi LGAs respectively.

These events were labeled as avoidable tragedies by the SSAs.

They commended the Governor for his prompt intervention in resolving the Asaba crisis, with unwavering confidence reaffirmed in his approach to the Okuama/Okoloba community conflicts.

A strong condemnation was issued against the extra-judicial killings, particularly mourning the loss of 17 soldiers in the Okuama/Okoloba crisis. Heartfelt condolences were extended to the families of the fallen soldiers and all affected by the violence.

All residents of Delta State were urged to embrace peace and maintain vigilance, rejecting any actions that may jeopardize the state’s peace, essential for progress and development.

Furthermore, the SSAs called on security agencies to persist in their efforts to bring perpetrators of atrocities to justice. Residents were implored to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or individuals to security agencies for immediate action.

The communique underscored the critical importance of peace and security for Delta State’s growth, development, and prosperity. The SSAs reiterated their dedication and loyalty to Governor Oborevwori’s vision for a greater Delta State, urging collective efforts towards a peaceful and secure future.
