Delta Sympathise With Farmers Affected Fire

AKWUKWU-IGBO/Nigeria: The Delta State Government has reiterated its commitment in assisting and developing the vulnerable population with a view to enhancing the gross domestic product (GDP) rate of the state.

The State Commissioner for Humanitarian and Community Support Services, Mrs Bridget Anyafulu made this known Monday, February 7, 2022 in Akwukwu – Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state when she visited farmers who farms were affected by fire in the community.

The Commissioner revealed that the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, was willing to partner with the community in area of farming.

“Do you want to engage in tomato farming or okra farming, be rest assured that His Excellency will be there for you and that it’s not out of place if the community is ranked first in tomato farming in the state,” she assured.

The commissioner stressed the need for the documentation of the number of out of school children and the reasons they were out of school, stressing that the state government spent billions of naira in children’s education fees to make it free for all and sundry in the public schools.

She said the governor had heard the cry of the community and had come to sympathize with them as well as to give assistance to overcome the effect of the recent fire disaster that engulfed some farmlands in the community.

Aniafulu, who met with some the victims of the fire disaster also visited some of the devastated farmlands to console the farmers, promised that the state government would not turn its back on them at this trying period of their lives most especially as the farming season approaches.

Earlier, the Obi of Akwukwu-Igbo Kingdom, HRM Obi David Azuka, welcomed the commissioner and her entourage to his kingdom and assured of continuous cooperation with the community.

Responding on behalf of the victims of the fire disaster in the community, Mr Emeke Iwelu, thanked Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the show of concern through the visit of the commissioner, adding that the state was blessed with a governor who identified with his people.

Explaining the challenges they had passed through since the fire incident, he said: “If not for the support I got from my family members I would have since committed suicide after I lost 2 truckloads of yam seedlings in the inferno.”

He assured the governor that whatever assistance rendered to ameliorate their suffering would be appreciated and used judiciously.

Present during the visit was the Omu of Akwukwu-Igbo, HRM, Grace Osebe and other palace chiefs.
