WARRI/Nigeria: Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources Development, Honorable Samuel Mariere, said potable water supply to households in Delta State, particularly in the Warri area of the state will soon be made available.
Mariere made this known shortly after he inspected the multi billion naira facility at the Warri Urban Water Corporation site.
Honorable Samuel Mariere was received by consultants and other officials of the Urban Water Board, including the Chief Executive Officer of Dom Domingos Water Company, Mr Temitope Akinyemi, and was immediately conducted around the different sections of the Warri Urban Water Corporation site.
The Water Resources Commissioner during the tour observed that most of the facilities worth billions of naira were in good shape while others were in need of maintenance.
He called for a stronger synergy and commitment from Dom Domingos Water Company and other consultants, noting that the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa was desirous of delivering potable water to Deltans before leaving office.
In a meeting with the stakeholders, Honorable Mariere spoke of his desire to make a positive difference in the Ministry of Water Resources, stressing the need for continuous exchange of ideas as a deliberate step towards achieving set goals.
He said that the state government would carry out an elaborate awareness campaign to sensitize Delta residents on dangers of consuming unclean water.
Chief Executive Officer of Dom Domingos Water Company, Mr Temitope Akinyemi lauded the commissioner for the familiarization visit, saying that the assurance from government was one thing that consultants needed to fulfill their own side of the agreement enshrined in the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
Others who spoke, including the General Manager of Urban Water Board, Mr Nosa Okoh, and Regional Manager of Warri Urban Water Corporation, Mr Franklin Awala, highlighted some challenges facing the Urban Water Corporation in Delta State.
