Delta Trains Green STEP Batch Beneficiaries on Entrepreneurship and Business Management

ASABA/Nigeria: The Delta State Government through its Job Creation office has carried out a two day Entrepreneurship and Business Management  for the Green STEP empowerment programme, who had undergone a formal 6 months training programme.

The programme which was held on Wednesday July 17 to Thursday July 18, in the State Job Creation Office, Anwai Road, Asaba, involved skill transmission methods, talks, participatory discussion, practical exercise, case studies and sections for question and answer.

In his remark, the Chief Job Creation Officer Professor Eric Eboh represented by Mr. Onyeisi Nkenchor recapped the instruction giving to the beneficiaries during the orientation programme, that in trainings, most times not all that start a business journey arrives at their destination, and as such, proper training have to be undertaking for those who are ready to go through the rigours of business management to succeed.

Prof Eboh stated that the training ended the 2018/2019 cycle of the job creation activities of the state government, which started with a total number of 1,180 persons, of which 1,139 persons had received starter packs to start their own business through the Job Creation office, under the STEP, YAGEP, BROWN AND GREEN Job creation programmes of the state. However, he pointed out that Entrepreneurship and Business Management Training, (EBMT), is made up of 41 beneficiaries, of the GREEN STEP batch.

He stated that the essence of the EBMT is a follow up for quality assurance trainings which the participants had undergone, to determine if the beneficiaries are ready for the business world, which according to him, is a new imput in the training methods of the job creation of the state government, departing from the previous practice of after period of training, starter packs are giving out to the trainees.

“This training is a follow up of the quality assurance programme to see how prepared the beneficiaries are prepared to face the business world, before you will be given starter packs. Before now, after your period of training, beneficiaries get their starter packs, but the government felt some extra training need to be done to test how prepared you are as entrepreneurs.”

“That had been done, and that is while we have 41 of you here today. After the two days training, you will be ready for your Starter Packs.” He pointed out.

The trainees were taking through Principles and Practices for starting-up a Business, Developing and Using Your Business Plan – Basic Principles and Approach, by Pastor Afolabi, Critical Factors in Growing a Business from start: Lessons From my Personal Experience by Emmanuella Clinton and Uche Emmanuel. The Role and Benefits of Mentors for the Start-Up and Growth of Your Enterprise, by Edward Mekwuye, Thinking and Behaving as Entrepreneur, by Mrs Chinemerem Omonigho, keeping and Using Business Records and Accounts, by Ben Ojoko.

The trainees were admonished to take their bussiness serious and go for more training, as the government is already equipping them with wealth to sustain their business.

In an interview with participants, they thanked the state Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and the state  Job Creation office for given them the opportunity to be business owners, and to contribute directly to the economic growth of the state.
