ASABA/Nigeria: The need for international donor agencies and other development partners as well as key stakeholders in the water in the society to continue to provide the platform towerds ensuring effective water supply has again been emphasised.
The General Manager (GM), Delta State Urban Water Corporation, Engr. Nosakhoro Okoh, who stated this in Asaba while speaking on the essence of the World Water Day celebration, said that the call had become necessary considering the importance of water to the overall well-being of any individual.
Engr. Okoh, said that the theme of this year’s celebration was ‘ Value Water ‘ , adding that water was critical for human existence, just as he stated that in Delta State the State Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa’s adminstration had performed creditably in the area of water provision in the state.
He said that over 80 percent of human body needed water for life , stressing that 60 percent of diseases bedevilling mankind could be attributed to water based diseases , even as he revealed that no sooner than later, World Bank intervention would commence in the state to build more on their production capacity.
Engr. Okoh, who gave assurance that there would be more water supply in urban areas across the state, noted that the corporation under his watch has provided access to water in Ogwuashi-uku, Issele-uku ,Bomadi, Asaba and other cities in the state.
The General Manager, however, disclosed that as part of the corporation’s commitment to ensuring robust service delivery, it had carried out sensitisation campaign across the state in order for consumers to value water.
He said that efforts were on top gear to extend water supply Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area, Kwale in Ndokwa West Local Government Area and Koko in Warri North Local Government Area of the state among other areas .
