A call has gone out to Deltans, particularly the youths, to take advantage of the opportunity being created by the state government through the resuscitation of technical education in the state, for them to acquire skills that would make them gainfully engaged in future.
The call was made by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr . Chiedu Ebie, during an inspection visit to the newly revamped Agbor Technical College, in Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
Mr. Ebie, who was accompanied on the visit by the Executive Secretary of the Technical and Vocational Education Board, Comrade Michael Akpobire, a member of the board, Engr. Smart Ikem, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media, Patriot Dantes Odogwu, Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Newspapers, Mr . Jonathan Onwuka and some staff of the education ministry, assured that the three technical colleges of Sapele, Agbor and Ofagbe, are going to impact positively on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s SMART agenda.
While expressing satisfaction with the quality and level of work done in the school, the education commissioner harped on the need for the culture of maintainance to be imbibed by both students and school authority so that the college can adequately serve their purpose to the people.
He noted that the institution, while serving the needs of students would also create job opportunities for residents of the area, as well as boosting socio economic activities within the community.
He therefore, called on members of the host community, and indeed, all Deltans, to ensure they register their children and wards, for them to get the much needed technical and vocational skills to be able to create employment for themselves and others.
“The aim of the state government is to ensure that our youths get skills and knowledge that would help them become self sufficient and have business of their own. The Okowa administration is committed to seeing our children grow up to be employers of labour, and be able to put food on their tables,” he stated.
On his part, principal of the college, Rev. Dr. Jude Owabor, while commending Governor Okowa for bringing back tecnical education in the state with the massive renovation and upgrading of facilities in three technical colleges, noted that a new revolution is going on in the education sector of the state.
He disclosed that, “this school was abandoned and left to rot for more than 15 years. It was in a terribly sorry state of disrepair until Governor Okowa came to the rescue. Today, we are happy over this positive development. Our children can now learn in a conducive environment. I want to use this medium to appreciate the state government led by Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.”
High point of the visit was inspection by the education commissioner, of some newly supplied equipment to the school.
