ASABA/Nigeria: Delta State Transport Commissioner Rt. Hon. Basil Ganagana has warned transport line owners and motorists across the state to desist from storing fuel and other flammable substances in their vehicles.
Ganagana gave the warning today as a matter of urgent public importance, due to the manner and ways the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) known as Petrol has become a very scarce commodity across the country.
“For the purpose of general safety on our roads and equally in our homes, we should be cautious about how fuel should not be stored haphazardly or indiscriminately in vehicles and at homes,” he warned, adding that petrol remained a volatile petroleum product.
Ganagana reiterated that despite the level of the product scarcity, transport companies operating within and outside the state, as well as motor parks and motorists should avoid the temptation of storing extra fuel in cans, in their vehicles, in order to avoid terrible consequences of fire outbreak.
He assured motorists and commuters that the state government would do everything possible to ameliorate the situation, by ensuring that all safety measures were adhered to in all fuel filling stations and that the bad fuel was not introduced into the state.
In the same vein, he further added that all Deltans should be cautious about the fuel situation, even at homes, saying: “Endeavour to store fuel products properly to avoid fire outbreaks.”
