ASABA/Nigeria: In a resolute declaration, Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, emphasized that political office should be dedicated to serving the electorate rather than pursuing personal gains.
Onyeme made this statement during a visit by the Onicha-Ukwuani clan from the Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, who came to congratulate him at the Government House in Asaba. Notably, Onyeme hails from the Onicha-Ukwuani community.
“Political office is not for yourself or your family alone; it is a platform to serve the people, the electorate, attract development to the people that you are representing,” expressed the Deputy Governor, emphasizing the importance of selflessness in political leadership.
Sir Onyeme expressed his delight at the visit of his fellow community members and acknowledged the historical significance of their presence at his office.
“I am very happy to see your faces today in my office, and it will go down in the history of this State that today, my own people, the people of Onicha-Ukwuani, came to this office and sat down with their son,” he said, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to serve his community.
Drawing parallels with the biblical story of the Israelites, Onyeme highlighted the sense of divine favor his community has experienced in recent political achievements.
“We are so privileged in Onicha-Ukwuani as the people say, ‘when it was time for Ndokwa to produce a Senator, God found favor in Onicha-Ukwuani; when it was time to produce the Majority Leader of the Delta State House of Assembly for the first time, God found favor in Onicha-Ukwuani, and when it was time for a Deputy Governor to also emerge from Ndokwa nation, God said take it to Onicha-Ukwuani,’ so we are God’s chosen people,” he proclaimed, emphasizing the community’s sense of destiny.
Furthermore, the Deputy Governor pledged his commitment to collaborating closely with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to facilitate development in the Onicha-Ukwuani clan. Addressing the concerns raised by the visitors, Onyeme assured them that he would strive to address the lack of infrastructure, particularly roads, and the absence of essential amenities, such as electricity, which the community has endured since 2013.
Representing the people, Ogbuiji Aneke Ifemeni extended heartfelt congratulations to Sir Onyeme for assuming the role of Deputy Governor and expressed confidence in his ability to effectively serve the people of Delta State.
Ifemeni appealed to Onyeme for his assistance in spearheading the construction of roads in Onicha-Ukwuani and providing essential amenities, highlighting the community’s long-standing struggle with electricity deprivation from the public power supply.
