OBIARUKU/Nigeria: The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, is delivering the dividend of democracy, to the mandate areas of the commission, based on the SMART Agenda of the government, under Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
The Executive Director, Social Services Development, Hon Christopher Ochor Ochor stated this during the week when he carried out an on the spot inspection of projects being executed by the commission in Ukwuani Local Government of the state.
Hon Ochor stated that the present board met a contract sum of about N10 Billion Naira, and based on the complete and commission policy of the board many of the projects had been completed and commissioned.
“The present board met a contract job of about N10 billion, and since our mandate was complete and commission, we had been completing and commissioning many of those jobs we met, and we will continue to do so for the good of the people.” He said.
The Executive Director who used the occasion to debunk the general believe that the commission under the present government is not working, stressed that the commission had completed many projects which were ongoing at the assumption of this present board.
“Government is a continuous one, the existing projects have to be completed for the good of the communities such projects are sited.”
Commenting on the essence of the inspection tour of projects in the Ukwuani, he stated it is a policy to ensure the job is up to standard, and it is within the time frame of completion.
While commending the contractors for the progress already achieved, he called on the beneficiary communities of the projects to cooperate with the contractors to ensure that the jobs are completed within the agreed period with the contractors.
Among the projects inspected were section B of the deflooding of the Obiaruku Market, the Perimeter fencing of the Emmanuel Uduaghan Civic Centre, in Obiaruku, the Ekpemili Primary School, Obi-Ogene, Ebedei, and the Skill Acquisition Centre, Umutu.
Commenting on the Skill Acquisition Centre, Hon Ochor said that at assumption of office, the governor because of his penchant for job creation for youths, and his Prosperity for All Deltans, he directed that the over 16 years project was over taken over by the commission from the State Ministry of Youths and Sports.
“The centre has a history, which was from the Ministry of Youths and Sports, and that phase has ended, this is another phase.”
According to him, just like any other project, the Skill Acquisition Centre will provide jobs and other economic benefits to the people of the area.
He pointed out that with the speed of job, barring any change of plans, the centre will be commissioned soon, by the Executive Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
