Aboh: Communities within the mandate areas of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC has been called to always protect the projects built in their areas.
This directive was given by the Managing Director of the Commission, Chief Williams Makinde during the commission of some projects executed in Abalagada, in Ndokwa East Local Government Area, on Thursday, 8, 2016.
According to the Managing Director, despite the paucity of funds to the state because of drop in the volumes of oil which had drop from 300 million Barrels per day (MBPD) to about 800 Barrel per day (BPD), DESOPADEC under the government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa will ensure that on-going projects are completed and commissioned and handed for use by the people.
He charged the communities to see that projects executed and handed over will be protected by the people who are the end users of the projects.
“We have built the projects and we are handing them over to you, it is the duty of the community to take possession of these projects. The communities must protect the projects; they must help in maintaining the projects”. He said.
On the on going projects, Chief Makinde said that as funds to the commission improves, the projects will be completed, as the board of the commission is focusing more on the need for major parts of funds to the commission is geared to the completion of such projects.
Also speaking at the commission, the representative of the Executive Director, Projects, Mr Philips Gbasin, Engr. Eclark James, called on the Abalagada community to cooperate with the government of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa to ensure development of the state, by allowing peace reigns in their community.
The projects commissioned are an Ultra-Modern Town Hall, of one thousand capacities, 6 classrooms of two blocks for the Abalagada Secondary School, a housing unit, and staff quarter for the secondary school.
Meanwhile the DESOPADEC Resources Centre in Obiaruku, Ukwuani LGA was also visited by the Managing Director, to ascertain the readiness of the centre.
While inspecting the centre, Chief Makinde called on the contractor to fix some of the areas that were badly done, so that the building will be commissioned and handed over to the people for use. Saying
“Once the fence is done, it will be commissioned, and handed over for use”.
While appreciating the aesthetic nature of the building, he reiterated his earlier call for communities to protect and maintain projects sited in their communities.
Accompanying the managing Director on the commissioning were, Hon Ochor Chris Ochor Executive Director, Social Services Development, Chief Askia Ogieh, Executive Director Finance and Admin, Chief Amos Ithwe, commissioner representing Urhobo Nation, Mr Nnamdi Ezechi, Commissioner representing Ndokwa Nation, and other staff of the commission.
