The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), is to partner with the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS) for effective women empowerment in the state.
This was made known recently by the Executive Director, Social Services Development, Hon Ochor Chris Ochor, during a congratulatory courtesy call by the executives of the NCWS to members representing the Ndokwa nation on the board.
He said that it had become pertinent that for women in the state to be effectively mobilised for development, the organised women societies need to play a major role in economic and social activities in the state, especially within the mandate area of the commission.
Hon Ochor stressed that the women societies need to properly check quarks among them, as in many occasion, some unscrupulous members of the public had taken advantage of the perceived weakness and often lack of unity inherent in the groups to dupe the government, individuals and organisations in the country in the name of women programmes.
The Executive Director, told the women that the commission is ready to partner with the body, especially when there are genuine, and socio-economic benefits that will be achieved, especially for women, who are effective contributors to grassroots development in the state, and Nigeria in particular.
Earlier, the state President, and representative of Ndokwa nation at NCWS, Chief (Mrs) Charity Odili, said that the visit was organised to formerly congratulate the Executive Director and the two commissioners representing the Ndokwa nation on the board of DESOPADEC, on their appointments by the governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and to form a working partnership for women in the state, with the commission.
