ASABA/Nigeria: In a strategic move to enhance police-community relations and boost the morale of officers, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the South-South geopolitical zone, DIG Daniel Sokari Pedro, psc (+) mni, has paid a working visit to the Delta State Police Command. This visit underscores the Force’s commitment to ensuring a safer Delta State.
Spokesperson Edafe Bright, Anipr, Fcia, Fipmd, of the Delta State Police Command, confirmed the visit in a press statement, highlighting the DIG’s objectives and interactions during his tour.
As the highest-ranking police officer in the South-South region and the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology, DIG Pedro, along with AIG Zone 5, AIG Arungwa Nwazue Udo, psc (+) mni, commenced his visit with a courtesy call on the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff F. Oborevwori, at the Government House in Asaba.
During their meeting, DIG Pedro praised the State Government’s support for the police force and solicited continued cooperation from both the government and the people of Delta State. Governor Oborevwori expressed his gratitude towards the police leadership, particularly Inspector General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, for recognizing the efforts of officers in the state. He announced plans to procure new vehicles for the police, which will be commissioned by the Inspector General.
Following his engagement with the governor, DIG Pedro proceeded to meet with stakeholders and officers of the command. In his address, he emphasized the importance of community partnership in modern policing, stating, “Policing has become everybody’s business.” He urged officers to avoid extortion and human rights abuses, stressing the necessity of policing with compassion and adherence to the rules governing the use of firearms, as outlined in Force Orders 237 and 88.
The DIG also commended the efforts of Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, lauding the significant achievements made in the state within a short period.
DIG Pedro’s visit is seen as a significant step towards reinforcing the police force’s resolve to tackle security challenges in Delta State while fostering a cooperative relationship with the community.
